The city was annexed from Lake Villa and now boasts a ever growing residential population as well as business and industry. Lindenhurst is “new” in its corporate identity however has historical and agricultural significance to its neighboring communities.

A significant Lake County historic site came within Lindenhurst borders through annexation in the mid-1990s. The Lake County Forest Preserve acquired the historic Bonner Farm, dating to the 1840s, and planned to develop it into a historical museum to preserve part of Lake County's agricultural heritage.
